Muster in the Marsh - Our Review!

Wow! Muster in the Marsh… How do we explain the event we attended this past weekend…. Muster in the Marsh was an event sponsored by BHA, which is Backcountry Hunters of Anglers which is a national group that helps hunters anglers and those interested in conservation to better understand policy, as well as help them to obtain and keep access to the public land. There is a lot more that goes into that I would highly recommend you check out their website!

What was Must on the Marsh?

So, Muster in the Marsh was an event hosted by the Ohio BHA chapter as I mentioned and it was in Conneaut Ohio.  About as far north east as you can get in the state of Ohio.  It was hosted at the CoveredBridge Outfitters property, which is awesome to have a local company to donate their time and their locations for this amazing organization.  There were tons of events, seminars and sessions through the weekend which were all very entertaining and information.  Eye opening to things outside just Hunting and Fishing that pertain to BHA as well.  They also had a live recording of the O2 podcast. Which is Ohio Outdoors podcast where Ryan Callahan from Cal’s Week in Review and the MeatEater Podcaster and Kevin Murphy from Small Game Nation were guests.  They also had the Director of the ODNR on the podcast to celebrate their 150 year anniversary! It was awesome to be able to sit there and listen to them as they had some great topics like policies things going on in Ohio as well as across the nation.  After the Live Recording they had a various seminars about trapping, small game hunting, how to skin a turtle and so many other things that were really entertaining us all very interesting.  Later, everyone got together around the camp fire to tell some stories.  Some folks got up and told stories about either a hunting experience, something related to the fishing area and anything in between them it was really fun to just sit around and talk and listen to the story from the people who share a similar thoughts to us.  We met so many amazing people throughout the weekend and it was such an eye-opening experience for us.

What was our take-away?

The biggest take-away we had is that you can always get more involved.  Especially with an organization like BHA that has a strong volunteer bases and is truly trying to do good for the masses.  There goal is to protect the public lands for everyone.  No matter your passion! I highly recommend to check out their website and become a member or figure out how they can better support their community. There are chapters from all over the country represented, and it was really amazing to see people who travel far and wide to be there for this amazing event I would think everyone should attend a Muster in the Marsh.  Or the one of the other events they host!  Or, just get involved by reading the newsletters.  That would be a great first step to getting educated on what is happening locally and federally to our Public Lands.  It is shocking to me somethings that they are passing through local government state governments, and even federal governments that we have no idea of the impact us in our public lands and everyone who uses those lands.

All this to say, we had an amazing time at Muster in the Marsh with Ohio BHA.  Please get involved and learn what is happening to your Public Lands!
